LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the particular needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This can be a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel safe within a conventional rehabilitation facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which have to be resolved so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family, in the event their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for drug use, and it is a good example of an issue that can be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a healthy life free of alcohol and drugs.
