Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in situations where standard treatment facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations inside a women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other serious issues which are specific to women. Research has revealed that women could also get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers that provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both standard and gender-specific issues which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and several facilities which provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for their children.
