Hearing impaired individuals tend to have a heightened likelihood of substance abuse issues due to their impairment, and treatment services have to be available to them which cater to their circumstances. Individuals who are hearing impaired can feel alone, unmotivated, and be without goals because of the impairment. Having said that, drug rehabilitation counselors who offer treatment to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges that these clients face. ASL treatment services are definitely a necessity, as are rehab services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy provides a venue for important peer interactions so that rehab clients can know that they are not alone, and that there is hope to resolve their problem with drugs and alcohol. Individual counseling services may be more tailored for each person so that their particular challenges can be treated in rehab.
