A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for folks with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home may help offer an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. People who reside within a group home might be getting involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or may be taking steps to get their life set up outside the group home to enable them to at some time live independently not in the group home.
