Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide treatment to address both mental health and addiction issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved in drug abuse, as people who have mental health problems frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of temporary respite from their disorder. Rehabilitation counselors will work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life such as negative relationships or any other things that should be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and abstinen t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop far better coping methods so that they are better able to deal with life situations well when they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to alcohol and drugs as a possible answer.
