Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would normally have to consent to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address substantial substance abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who do decide on an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis every day or a few days weekly. This is often helpful for those who have just completed a more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment centers which provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous rehabilitation choice.
