A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for those in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for folks with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending those who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home might help provide an acceptable environment to help maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents within a group home could be taking part in rehab services while in residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside the group home to enable them to at one point live independently outside the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is definitely not a long-term or permanent solution, yet it's a viable short term option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together.
