LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially depraved. This may be an extremely tough or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb this pain. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel relaxed in a traditional rehabilitation program amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT rehab provides an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which should be resolved so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients mend relationships with their family, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for drug use, which is a good example of something which could be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free of alcohol and drugs.
