LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This is often a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel relaxed within a conventional treatment center amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which should be handled in order to get better. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is definitely a common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is an example of an issue that could be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life free of alcohol and drugs.
