A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continuous support and help for people in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for folks with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. Rather than sending people who are experiencing drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home may help offer an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability within their lives and also have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. People who reside in a group home might be involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or could be taking steps to get their life set up outside the group home so that they can at some time live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent option, but it is a viable short-term option for those who are trying to get their lives back together.
