Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in situations where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such troubles may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other serious issues which are specific to women. Research has revealed that women also can become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a result of addiction problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Much like coed programs, alcohol and drug treatment centers which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender-specific problems which may have induced their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from other female peers, and some facilities that provide treatment services to women provide client beds for her kids.
