LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This can be a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT may not feel safe within a conventional rehab center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be resolved in order to get well. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is generally the case. This circumstance is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, and is a good example of an issue that will be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life without any drugs and alcohol.
