Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will ordinarily take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis every day or several days weekly. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed a much more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a very small amount of clients. For someone with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug rehab programs that provide treatment on a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab choice.
