Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven very useful in circumstances where standard treatment facilities have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations within a women's life which can be distinctive and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another serious issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women may also become involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness because of drug abuse problems than males because of this. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed centers, drug treatment programs which provide treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both standard and gender-specific concerns which may have triggered their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the constructive support from other female peers, and some programs which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
