A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and help for people in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Rather than sending people who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability in their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents within a group home might be taking part in treatment services whilst in residence, or could be taking actions to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at one point live independently outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a viable short term option for individuals who making the effort to get their lives back together.
