Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation center. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune option, it isn't for everybody. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will generally attend meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis every day or several days each week. This is very helpful for those who have just completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is really a really small number of clients. For somebody with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facilities that provide rehab on a long-term basis will be the more effective treatment alternative.
