Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to take part in rehabilitation services without the commitment you might usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment center. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to solve substantial drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis daily or a few days per week. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed a more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a brief history of drug abuse which is really a really small number of clients. For somebody with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs which provide rehab over a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous rehab choice.
