Hearing impaired persons tend to have a greater likelihood of substance abuse issues due to their impairment, and rehabilitation services must be available which serves their needs. Firstly, detecting an alcohol and drug abuse problem among the hearing impaired is generally a challenge, as these individuals may try to hide their issue as a result of social stigmas that come with drug abuse. Having said that, drug treatment counselors who provide rehabilitation to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are of course a must, as well as rehabilitation services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy provides a venue for important peer interactions so that rehab clients can know that they're not alone, and that there is hope to handle their problem with alcohol and drugs. Individual counseling services can be more tailored for everybody to ensure that their own problems can be treated in treatment.
