Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to take part in treatment services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who do decide on an outpatient rehab will ordinarily attend meetings and take part in therapy and rehabilitation services part-time every day or a few days each week. This is helpful for individuals who have recently completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For somebody with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation programs which offer rehabilitation over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehabilitation choice.
