Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in situations where standard treatment facilities have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations within a women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or another really serious issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness because of dependency problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific issues who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and some facilities which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their children.
