LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially depraved. This may be a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel comfortable in a conventional rehabilitation program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment which is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which should be handled so that they can get better. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is usually the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and is also an example of an issue that will be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free from drugs and alcohol.
