Criminal justice client rehabs are available as a far better option than incarceration or heavy fines for those who have been convicted of any type of drug or alcohol related crime. For example, a person who has been found guilty of driving while impaired of alcohol or drugs may be eligible to receive rehabilitation services for his or her problem as opposed to serving time in prison. The judge could even order the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or in addition to other sentencing. First time offenders specifically in many cases are given the chance to go with a criminal justice client rehab instead of other sentencing, and it is well-advised that they benefit from it if it is an alternative. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is much more effective and efficient to invest time and effort into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been carried out to see how effective this strategy is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the individual returns or not to criminal justice system following rehabilitation. All indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients that experience rehabilitation have better chance of remaining out of the judicial system after treatment.
