People who are hearing impaired can seem to be alone, unmotivated, and goalless because of their impairment. Firstly, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired can be a challenge, because these individuals may attempt to hide their issue as a result of social stigmas that come with drug abuse. Having said that, drug rehabilitation counselors who provide treatment to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are of course a must, as well as treatment services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy offers a venue for important peer interactions in order that rehab clients can know they are not on their own, and that there is hope to resolve their challenge with drugs and alcohol. Individual therapy services may be more tailored for each person so that their own personal challenges can be addressed in treatment.
