Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug treatment facility. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant substance abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis each day or several days each week. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a brief history of drug use which is really a really small number of clients. For an individual with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facilities that provide rehab over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehabilitation option.
