Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver treatment to handle both mental health and addiction concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved with drug abuse, as those that have mental health issues often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to to feel some form of short-term respite from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help individuals through a comprehensive treatment plan all directed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health as well as addressing substance abuse problems. Providing a safe and secure environment is essential to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that could compromise their program and advancement. Treatment counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things which should be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally stable and sober t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which helps them develop more effective coping methods so they are able to better deal with life situations better if they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior solution.
