Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very useful in situations where traditional rehab settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations in a women's life that are unique and painful. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or another really serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women could also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness because of drug abuse problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender specific concerns which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from their female peers, plus some facilities that offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their children.
