Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This may be a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel at ease within a conventional rehab facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and treatment counselors issues which have to be resolved to be able to recover.
