Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven worthwhile in situations where traditional rehab facilities have fallen short, such as coping with situations in a women's life that happen to be unique and distressing. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another significant issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, rehab services for women are designed in order that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Just like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers that provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both standard and gender specific issues which may have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the constructive support from other female peers, plus some facilities which offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for her young children.
