Hearing impaired individuals tend to have an increased likelihood of drug abuse issues because of the impairment, and rehab services must be at hand which serves their circumstances. People who are hearing impaired can seem to be isolated, lack motivation, and goalless because of the impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the emotional and psychological problems that accompany having this handicap in daily life.
