Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven beneficial in situations where traditional rehab settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations within a women's life that happen to be unique and traumatic. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other serious issues that are particular to women. Research shows that women may also get involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness due to addiction problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed programs, alcohol and drug rehab facilities which offer rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women target both general and gender specific problems which may have triggered their substance abuse. Women also utilize the constructive support from their female peers, and several programs that provide treatment services to women provide client beds for their young children.
