Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven very helpful in circumstances where traditional rehab facilities have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations in the women's life which can be unique and painful. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other really serious issues that happen to be particular to women. Research has shown that women also can become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness because of drug abuse problems than males consequently. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug rehabilitation programs that offer rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender specific issues which may have brought about their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the positive support from other female peers, and a few programs that provide rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for her kids.
