Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehabilitation to deal with both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for individuals involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health issues frequently medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of short-term respite from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation professionals can help men and women through a comprehensive treatment plan all directed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while addressing alcohol and drug abuse problems. Providing a secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances which could cut across their program and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will work to identify environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or other things that should be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and abstinen t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral treatment which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are better able to deal with life circumstances well if they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible solution.
