Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug or alcohol use, or dangerous sexual conduct due to drug abuse could have caused the individual to contract the illness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either due to their substance abuse or as a pre-existing condition before their substance abuse problem, often require rehabilitation services tailor-made in order to meet their particular demands and problems. Some of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS rarely take care of themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to maintain their health. As a result, they arrive to rehabilitation in very poor physical shape and this will have to be addressed as a priority while also addressing other crucial concerns. Aside from the obvious requirement to provide medical solutions during rehabilitation, people with HIV/AIDS also have to tackle deeper issues which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Often, people have situations in their lives which are purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to alcohol or drugs, including oppressive situations within their lives or damaging relationships. These are the issues which treatment counselors will focus on in HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
