Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, such as dealing with situations in a women's life that happen to be unique and traumatic. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or any other really serious issues which are particular to women. Research has revealed that women may also get involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness due to addiction issues than males because of this. Due to responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug treatment programs which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender-specific concerns who have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the positive support from other female peers, and several programs which offer treatment services to women also provide client beds for her children.
