TRICARE is medical health insurance which is provided to members of the military of the United States. Drug and alcohol use inside the military is much more common than one would assume, and the need to offer rehabilitation to these individuals is an important priority. TRICARE covers a number of treatment services to cope with drug and alcohol dependence including detox services, as well as treatment in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient programs. Individuals with TRICARE will naturally be asked to obtain a prior authorization before taking part in any sort of rehabilitation service, which is often arranged using a regional TRICARE representative. If an inpatient facility will be the preferred rehabilitation option, TRICARE will cover a 3 week period or one inpatient stay in that facility per benefit period which is every 12 months. There are certain limits regarding the length of time a TRICARE member can remain in an inpatient facility that accepts TRICARE, and there's typically a 30 to 45 day window that's covered. TRICARE also covers family counselling which is often very helpful, as it may help include loved ones in the healing and process of recovery.
