Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehabilitation to address both addiction and mental health concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for folks involved with substance abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to to feel some sort of short-term relief from their disorder. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or any other things that have to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally stable and abstinen t whenever they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral treatment which helps them develop far better coping methods so they are able to better deal with life circumstances well after they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than turning to drugs and alcohol as a possible answer.
