Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to handle both addiction and mental health issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for people involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health disorders frequently medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to experience some sort of short-term respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help individuals using a comprehensive rehab plan all directed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health while dealing with substance abuse issues. Providing a secure environment is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances which could compromise their treatment plan and development. Rehabilitation counselors will work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things that should be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally healthy and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop more efficient coping methods so they are able to better deal with life situations more effectively if they leave dual diagnosis rehab instead of returning to drugs and alcohol as a possible answer.
