Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to take part in treatment services with the same commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will generally attend meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis on a daily basis or a few days weekly. This is helpful for those who have recently completed a more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a short history of drug use which is usually a really small amount of clients. For someone with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs that provide rehab over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab option.
