Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver rehab to deal with both mental health and addiction issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common circumstance for individuals involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health issues frequently self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some form of temporary relief from their disorder. Providing a safe setting is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things that could compromise their program and development. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life including negative people in their lives or other things which need to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and abstinen t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which helps them develop far better coping methods so they are better able to handle life situations more effectively if they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible answer.
