A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a place which provides continual support and help for people in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Rather than sending individuals who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. Residents within a group home may be taking part in treatment services while in residence, or could be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home to enable them to at one point live on their own away from the group home. By way of example, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent solution, yet it's a viable temporary option for those who making the effort to get their lives back together.
