Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to take part in rehab services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will ordinarily show up at meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis every day or a few days per week. This is helpful for many who have just completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a brief history of drug use which is really a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug treatment centers which provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehab alternative.
