LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially depraved. This is sometimes a quite challenging and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel at ease in a conventional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which need to be resolved to enable them to get well. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is definitely a frequent trigger for abusing drugs, which is an example of a thing that will be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life free of drugs and alcohol.
