LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and considered socially unwanted. This is often a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT might not feel safe inside a traditional rehab program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be resolved in order to get well. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is an illustration of an issue that will be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free from alcohol and drugs.
