Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where conventional rehab facilities have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations within a women's life which can be unique and painful. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has revealed that women could also become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness due to drug abuse problems than males consequently. Due to duties in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug rehab centers which offer rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender specific problems who have triggered their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, plus some facilities which offer treatment services to women provide client beds for their young children.
