Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to take part in treatment services without the commitment you might usually have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People who do choose an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services part-time on a daily basis or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for many who have just completed a far more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a very small number of clients. For someone with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs which provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehab choice.
