Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. People who decide on an outpatient rehab will generally attend meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time each day or several days a week. This is often helpful for individuals who have just completed a far more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with only a short history of drug use which is usually a very small amount of clients. For a person with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs which provide rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial treatment option.
