Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven worthwhile in situations where conventional treatment settings have fallen short, for example coping with situations in a women's life which are unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other significant issues that are particular to women. Research has revealed that women can also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a result of drug abuse problems than males consequently. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug treatment programs which offer treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender specific issues which may have triggered their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from other female peers, plus some programs which offer rehab services to women provide client beds for her young children.
