Hearing impaired individuals generally have a heightened risk of drug use issues due to their impairment, and rehab services must be available which serves their needs. People who are hearing impaired can appear isolated, unmotivated, and be without goals for their impairment. In the first place, detecting a substance abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, since these individuals may attempt to hide their problem due to social stigmas attached to drug abuse. Having said that, drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselors who provide treatment to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are definitely a necessity, as well as treatment services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals face.
