A group home for someone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continual support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and support within reach 24/7. People who reside within a group home could be getting involved in treatment services during residence, or could be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at one point live on their own away from the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent solution, but it is a viable temporary option for individuals who making the effort to get their lives back together again.
