A group home for anyone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continuous support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral trouble for example. As opposed to sending those who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals sustain stability in their lives and also have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. Residents in the group home may be taking part in treatment services whilst in residence, or might be taking steps to get their life set up outside the group home in order to at some point live independently outside of the group home. By way of example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent solution, but it is a practical short term option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
